Here is another Christmas Stocking but with a different back and cuff. I like making these. The rail fence takes a little longer because you have to cut and sew strips, but just look at the result.

I am trying to use up the fabric I have before I buy new fabric, but, the new patterns keep calling me...buy me...buy me. I need to make the grandson's Christmas Stockings to hang at our home (Grandma and Grandpa) I start those on Monday.

We went to an October Fest at Peter and Jacki's house in October. I can't believe I did not take more pictures. My cousin Paula's daughter got married this past Saturday, September 26, 2009. This is a picture of her Uncle Sam who lives in Florida. Her mother's brother. Sammy's Uncle Frank is behind Sammy in this photo.

There was a cool old cemetery we drove through. On this particular picture my camera froze up. Would not close, advance, photograph etc. I had to take out the batteries to get it to work again. Me, Mom and Dolly took that as a sign we should leave. I was looking closely at the picture to see if there was a weird shadow or something but could not find one. CAN YOU?

Down Memory Lane

These are family members buried in the city of Clarkston Michigan off M24 not too far from Oxford.

Uncle Art was Aunt Margaret's husband.

Milton was Aunt Margaret and Uncle Art's son.

This plaque is also on the lot where Milton is buried.

This is Grandma Gemmel's stone. She died the year Rodney and I were married and made the best oatmeal cookies and bread n butter pickles in the whole United States.

This is a close up of my cousin Gordon's stone who was buried just last month. This completely blew me away. The image is of him and his wife holding hands. Their son said this picture was taken of them walking down the driveway. Gordon is Aunt Margaret's son. His birth name is Marcelle Gauthier, in turn giving him a different father. Aunt Margaret is Grandma Gemmel/Gorsline's daughter and still kicking hard at a young age of 96.

I was unable to attend Gordon's funeral so Dolly suggested we make a special trip to the Cemetery. We were glad we did. Miss you Gordy, you are with Butchy now. Until we meet again, rest peacefully.

A few good comments about this particular cemetery are the stones. You can put just about anything on a stone. One we saw, I gather the lady was a sewer, there was a sewing machine engraved (well not really engraved, kind of like photo shopped on) with long sleeve sweat shirts in a half circle effect around the sewing machine. I gather they were designs she made for family. It was so cool. Many wedding pictures, pilots, an excavating machine with a carved hat and so much more. Oh, you can put those iron rods that hold up baskets of flowers there also. Sounds crazy but we had the best time driving through and reading the stones. Next time I would like to look on the other side of the cemetery by the old stones.

Monkey had a blow out.

After some very technical surgery with scissors, we had to remove his leg. Monkey is three legged and doing well now.

Franco is very happy to have monkey back.

I tried to get a picture of him sleeping with the ear in his mouth but he caught me.

I am having a bad hair day and she keeps taking pictures of me. HELP!

I really do have eyes under all this hair.

My day keeps getting worse and my hair is unmanageable.

I think it is time to get Franco a hair cut.

We were playing and his hair was full of static. We are suppose to wait till he is 6 months old to cut his hair. He will be 6 months on the 23rd of February. I might trim him a few days early.

He is doing well and up to 4.5 pounds. He is slowing down with gaining weight and almost to his full weight which will be around 5 pounds.

I am afraid after his hair cut he will be under 4 pounds there is so much there.

It is recommended if you do not show a dog that you should keep their hair trimmed back. Although their coat is beautiful long, and a lot of people will keep their coat long just for appearance sake, you must keep them brushed out which takes hours upon hours to do.

Another interesting fact about the Maltese is they have hair not fur and you should use a good shampoo and conditioner on them or their coat appearance will look dull.

Sewing machines...

Hi All,

OK, so my Sunday ended unhappily/disappointing. I made a fluffy pillow for Franco's travel cage and my sewing machine just made it to the end of the project. I do have an embroidery machine I can use as a sewing machine BUT I lost the shank that holds on the feet. I looked till 1am with no success.

I don't know if you want to call it a mourning period but this is the first time I feel like sewing after all the deaths we had.

Always something. Life goes on.

Now we have over 12 inches of snow at 12:30pm and the lake effect warning is till 8pm this evening. We are getting hammered.
I talked to Eric (he lives in Cleveland about 23 min. from here) and they only have 2 to 3 inches. I sent him these pictures.

Sunshine after the storm

As the snow tapers off. 1-27-09

Big foot was here.

The sun is starting to come out from behind the snow clouds.

OH YES! I see blue sky now. The storm is over dumping 18 inches on the 12 inches we already had.

What wonderful snow storms this month. The record high for January is 42-1/2" and we are close to beating that record which was made the year Eric was born.
They call it the THE BLIZZARD OF 1978.
Oh yes, I was upset because they would not deliver my pepperoni pizza. "Ma'am we are not delivering this evening or in the near future till we get a clear shot down Lorain Road".
They had one lane on each side going east and west, what a nightmare.
So I walked around the corner to Lawsons' Deli and got me a (popular boxed pizza) and trudged through the snow up to my butt and made my own.
The next day (Super Bowl Sunday) I was in Fairview Hospital in labor.

Franco has grown, he is up to 3.1 pounds but Monday he has a vet appointment so I bet he is at least 4 pounds now. Here are photos of his bath. Enjoy!

My new year promise is to finish all the sewing projects I have started. I will post them as I finish them.

Nothing new on Stefanie. So far she is not in labor. January 9th has gotten here quickly. Will keep you posted.

Hi all,

Life has been too busy to talk on my blog so I need to set time aside and join in on life outside my realm.

We bought a dog. He is a Maltese and we have named him Franco after Franco Harris (football player). His registered name will be Franco Oliver Harris. He is only 6 weeks in the photo so he is not ready to leave him Mom yet. Can't wait to bring him home on November 15th.

Rodney is holding him so you can see how tiny he is. He is the runt of the litter so he may get to 5 lbs.

We had an ongoing day of rain and thunderstorms today, June 22, 2008.

At sunset (9:00pm) we were blessed with the most beautiful rainbow.

The small portions you see are just a glimpse of the wonder I was privileged to witness. It was a complete double rainbow that filled the sky with a pinkish orange glow.

IT JUST FILLS ME WITH JOY.

How ironic, through the criss-cross of wires and technology one can still find beauty.

Crochet project

Hi All,

I counted my unfinished quilting projects today and I came up with four. I did finish an afghan I started last year. Here is a photo of it.

I have set a goal to finish these quilts in two months and post photos of my accomplishments.

We do have a grand baby coming in January so I will need to focus on getting these things done.

We are painting the living room this weekend. We find as we age, this task that was so easy to do just 10 years prior, it is not so easy. Crawling around on the floor and climbing ladders has become more of a challenge.

Rainbows make me smile.

Hi All,

Well, here is my first rainbow for this year. It was taken at work and the photo does not give the rainbow true justice. Although you can't see it, there was a faint image of a second rainbow just to the left.

I love the sky, except for the sunny hot days over 75 because I hate heat and lightning scares the s#@t out of me, but the moon, clouds, and the stars are what I love. Each night after work when I am walking down the drive my eyes are pierced to the sky. Yes, the big dipper is still there. Yes, the little dipper is still there. Then a big sigh, yes, all is well.

Growing Up

Hi All,
I grew up in the best times, the 60's and 70's. I could have gotten basically any drug I wanted. Janis, Jimmy, the Doors and rushing home from school to watch Dark Shadows was at the top of my list.
I wish I had been born a few years earlier and old enough to experience Woodstock. I know it was very traumatic for many people. But it was an experience that is unforgotten. Just to see Janis, or Jimmy live and experience all the different bands, god, I hate to admit I am a little envious of those who did.
The moral to the story is I did not do any drugs! Hard to believe huh? Just to see my friends and co-workers stoned to the hilt and non-functional, peeing, and puking was enough for me. Why would you want to do that to yourself?
Now I am not saying I was perfect I do have some drinking stories to tell, but not many.
It would be nice to hear some of those Woodstock stories. If anyone has some please pass them along.

Hi all,

We had another blustery system come through our area dropping 18 inches of the pearly white fluff on us.

It took two shovelings to claim our cars in the back yard. After the first shoveling there was no evidence we had been out there at all with the snow and drifting.

Today is sunny and the temp is 23 going all the way up to 28. Yeeha!

Comfort meatloaf

Hi all,

One thing I love is meatloaf. Here is a recipe I came up with. I usually like to include the brand names. Enjoy!

1 T (Mazola corn oil)

1/4 cup (vadalia onion) coarse chopped

1/4 cup carrots coarse chopped

1 lb. ground chuck

1/2 cup plus 1/4 cup (Heinz ketchup)

1/4 cup (Progresso) garlic and herb bread crumbs

1/4 cup water

1 large egg

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

Pam non-stick spray.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a small skillet heat 1 T oil. Brown onions and carrots till light golden brown (approx. 10 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool (approx. 5 minutes) Photo A

In a medium bowl combine onion and carrot mix, ground chuck, 1/2 cup ketchup, bread crumbs, water, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Spray the bottom of your favorite casserole with a non-stick spray. Form meat into a loaf.

Top the meatloaf with remaining 1/4 cup ketchup also covering the sides. Photo B

Bake uncovered for 50 minutes. Remove and let stand 5 minutes before serving. Photo C

Hi All,

Merry Christmas in February! We got quite a bit of snow the past two days. A good 8 inches. As everyone knows I love the snow. I will even drive in a blizzard. But lightening will stop me cold.

The trek home from work last night was a slow one, about 15 to 20 mph. I got home about 1am. I spun-out once close to work at a stop sign. The rest of the way home I just glided through them. One thing nice about driving late at night is the roads are empty.

I cross three railroad crossings. One of them is kind of on a hill, as I approached that one I took off my seat belt in case the car would not stop so I could bail.

Tonight we celebrated my younger son's 1 year Wedding Anniversary. Last year we were in Jamaica for their wedding instead of at home in the snow and cold. Happy Anniversary to Nick and Jenni.
